GTM predicts $755 million value by 2020 in transformer monitoring report

7th February 2013
Greentech Media Research (GTM Research) has published a report of almost 150 pages into the future of transformer monitoring markets in the United States, titled ‘Transformer Monitoring Markets, 2013-2020: Technologies, Forecasts, and Leading Vendors’.
The report, which provides technology-specific analysis involving a wide range of top transformer companies which operate in the U.S., predicts that the transformer monitoring market will hit $755 million (€565 million) in value by 2020. This is up from its current figure of $112 million.
GTM’s research finds that the sheer amount of data smart meters and distribution automation hardware (among other hardware) need to deal with, plus an aging workforce and aging assets, will require investment in software and intelligent transformers.
Other incentives also mentioned are simply the increased reliability, efficiency, customer service and reduced operating costs associated with better technology.
The author of the report, Ben Kellison, stated in an article on GTM’s website: “We see transformer monitoring and software markets as high-growth areas driven by the strength of the secondary transformer market… Grid giants like ABB, Alstom, GE, Schneider and S&C Electric Company have already caught on to the opportunity that transformer technology offers and are well positioned to lead the market.”
The report is available to buy on GTM’s website at $2,995 for a single site license.
