Egypt and Saudi Arabia will issue tenders in March for a project that will link the two country’s electricity grids, according to a Saudi newspaper.

The project will have a capacity of 3 GW and will be completed by 2020.

Earlier reports from Saudi officials have said that the 1,300 km, 500 kV DC transmission line will run from Badr, Egypt to Western Medina, Saudi Arabia.

In November 2017, GE connected the 500/220 kV Badr GIS to to Egypt’s grid.
