Two workers for the Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Corporation (Tangedco) have suffered severe electric shocks while repairing a transformer in the cyclone hit region of Pudukkottai.

The workers were dispatched by Tangedco to repair a broken transformer near Kalamavur in the district of Pudukkottai, which has been left devastated by Cyclone Gaja.

Although power was shut down when they were working on the transformer, they suffered the shock due to a reversal of electrical current from a nearby college where a diesel-powered portable generator was switched on. Both men were rushed to Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Government Hospital (MGMGH).

“They are kept under constant observation in the intensive care unit. The condition of Murugesan is critical,” said MGMGH dean G Anitha.
