ABB transformers made at Bad Honnef facility delivered to Wilster substation

Northern European transmission system operator TenneT is delivering two ABB transformers to a substation in Wilster in Schleswig Holstein.
The two direct-coupling transformers will connect the 380kV portion of TenneT’s network to the 110kV portion of Schleswig-Holstein Netz’s grid and will help integrate more offshore wind power into the German grid.
The Wilster upgrade in the district of Steinburg will transform it into a critical network node for the German and European power grid and will support increasing levels of renewables penetration, TenneT said.
As well as connecting to the subordinate network of Schleswig-Holstein Netz, the new transformers will also connect the Wilster substation to the Nordlink interconnector between Germany and Norway and the planned SuedLink, which will transport power between Germany’s north and south regions.
ABB made the transformers at its facility in Bad Honnef near Bonn, which were delivered to the port of Rotterdam and, from there, to Elbe port in Brunsbuttel.
