Transformer explosion causes temporary shutdown of Moolamattom power station

Power production has resumed at Moolamattom power station after a transformer explosion caused a temporary shutdown.

The transformer explosion, which occurred on Monday night, damaged part of the generator at the Moolamattom power plant in Kerala, India.

Two employees were hospitalised due to smoke inhalation. Fire and rescue services arrived on the scene and took the two injured employees to the hospital.

The exciter transformer of generator -2 exploded during a trial run on Monday evening, which caused the power station to shut down temporarily.

Moolamattom Power Station is the biggest underground Hydro-electric power station in India.
