Massive transformer delivered to Triton Knoll wind farm
A huge 1,400 tonne transformer has been towed off the Lincolnshire coast as part of the Triton Knoll wind farm project.
The first of two Siemens Offshore Transformer Modules (OTM) was put on a barge and dragged out into the sea by tugs on April 6.
The OTM, which is 41 metres tall, took six days to reach its final position 20 miles off the Lincolnshire Coast at the 857MW Triton Knoll Offshore Windfarm.
Once fully operational, the module will stabilise and maximise the voltage of the power that is created by the wind turbines, before transmitting it to a substation in Bicker Fen, near Boston.
This substation will allow the energy to be transferred to the grid, but first the two sites must be linked.
