Siemens’ core-cutting center celebrates 10th anniversary
The Weizer transformer core cutting center recently celebrated its 10th anniversary with a ceremony.
At the end of 2009, the transformer plant in Weiz had been expanded to include the core cutting center (“Süd plant”).
The ceremony, which was framed by the Siemens factory chapel, focused on presenting the track record of the core cutting center.
For ten years now, Siemens has been producing metal sheets and cores for transformers in Preding with seven state-of-the-art computer-controlled cutting systems and an e-stacker (core automatic machine).
The background to the installation of the core cutting center at the Weiz site was a bundling of the cutting capacities in order to be able to provide the metal sheets for the main component core in the transformer cost-effectively to the transformer plants. From grain-oriented electrical steel, the core for the production of transformer and reactor cores is manufactured in this core cutting center.
“Special tests ensure the high quality of the products and support the fulfillment of customer specifications,” says the new plant manager Jörg Kienleitner. By stabilizing and increasing production capacities, output rose from initially 5,000 tons to 30,000 tons per year.

Transformers from the Siemens Weiz plant are mainly going to the USA and Europe to England and Austria. The Austrian transformer specialists from Weiz can offer a complete spectrum and are future-oriented as a research and development location.
