A new transformer has been delivered to the Langweid der Lechwerke substation in Bavaria.

Network operator LEW Verteilnetz GmbH (LVN) has had a new 110- / 20-kV transformer delivered to the site of the substation.

The new transformer is more powerful than the previous one, as well as being quieter and more efficient. The growing supply of electricity from renewable sources in the area have led to the installation of the new transformer.

The approximately 9.5 meters long, three meters wide and four meters high transformer weighs about 67 tons and was delivered with a special truck from Dresden by the manufacturer Siemens.

In order to minimize the impact on road traffic, special transport covered most of the route during the night hours until it arrived at the substation site in the northeast of Langweid in the early morning. After delivery to the site, the transformer was lifted by a crane from the transport vehicle and placed on the foundation.

The new transformer will be connected, tested and put into operation on December 12th. The supply of electricity customers is meanwhile secured by the other substations in the region.
