A transformer has caused an explosion at a power plant in Baden-Württemberg.

A minor explosion occurred at EnBW’s Altbach-Deizisau thermal power station on Saturday.

According to an initial report, an insulator on the power plant transformer detonated, although the reasons is still unclear.

The explosion caused a fireball and a corresponding bang. No people were injured. Police and fire brigade were on site, but have since left.

EnBW is currently examining the damage caused to the affected transformer. Unit 2 of the power plant is currently at a standstill; however, the power supply is not affected as sufficient other power generation plants are connected to the grid.
