Končar, Croatia’s leading manufacturer of instrument transformers, has successfully completed a full range of tests on units filled with Nynas’ bio-based insulating liquid NYTRO® BIO 300X.

“The tested units are a part of our novel GREEN LINE product range, which features instrument transformers utilising state-of-the-art dielectric liquids with a reduced environmental impact, intended for applications from 72.5–800 kV,” says Davor Baković, CEO of Končar – Instrument Transformers.

Current, voltage and combined instrument transformers spanning 123–420 kV were tested. The units successfully completed a rigorous regimen that included routine and type tests according to the IEC 61869 standard family, followed by multiple chopped, life expectancy and climatic tests. These requirements exceed current standards and are considered best practice in terms of qualifying paper-oil insulation systems.

“The tests confirmed that the use of NYTRO® BIO 300X in Končar instrument transformers provides outstanding electric properties, equivalent in all aspects to conventional mineral oil,” Igor Žiger, head of the Technical Department in Končar – Instrument Transformers.

“Končar’s inherent design features combined with the benefits of NYTRO® BIO 300X, namely biodegradability, low viscosity and a negative carbon footprint, provide a foundation for a more sustainable future and is a clear leap forward in the instrument transformer world,” added Thomas Feischl, Sales Executive Nynas.
