Collett & Sons Ltd have just made a major delivery; two super grid transformers weighing 215 tonnes each from GE’s Stafford engineering facility to Leylodge, Kintore.

In order to do this, they mobilised their Goldhofer girder bridge in modular form, which had a 250 tonne capacity. The overall length of the transformer and girder bridge combination was 65.8 metres, with a rigid length of 41.6 metres, requiring extensive surveying and route planning ahead of transport.

The two 5 metre high transformers were 8 metres long by 4 metres wide and were delivered on separate occasions to Ellesmere Port before reaching their final destination in Aberdeenshire, Scotland.
