The U.S. Department of Energy’s Office of Electricity (DOE) has announced a request for information seeking feedback from transformer manufacturers and utilities regarding distribution and power transformers.

DOE said it is looking “to obtain public input regarding a potential future funding opportunity announcement seeking the research, development, and demonstration of innovative advanced transformers that can be readily utilized across a range of distribution to transmission scale applications.”, according to a statement.

The DOE is soliciting stakeholder input on several key areas: 1) Priority Transformer Research Questions, which involve identifying the most critical distribution and power transformer research topics essential for the success of the US transformer industry; 2) Transformer Technology Development, focusing on addressing technology gaps in distribution and power transformers; 3) Transformer Supply Chain Constraints, aiming to cultivate a domestic supply chain that encourages competitive, efficient, high-quality, and cost-effective US transformer manufacturing; and 4) Market Adoption and Industry/Sector Sustainability, which examines reliable supply and demand factors, product adoption drivers, and opportunities to create a sustainable US market.
